About Our Practice

Dr. Donald S. Jacobs is one of the most respected ophthalmologists in the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Tri-State Area. Cincinnati Magazine has named Dr. Jacobs one of the area's "Top Doctors." He has proudly served as Team Ophthalmologist for the Cincinnati Bengals, 1979 to the present, and for the Cincinnati Reds, 1980 - 1990. Dr. Jacobs also sees patients from other parts of the Midwest at our eye center.

Since Dr. Jacobs became involved with refractive surgery in the mid-1980s, your options for vision correction procedures have continued to expand greatly.

Laser Vision Correction is the mainstay of our refractive practice for most patients with mild to moderate corrections. Current Laser Vision procedures include LASIK, LASEK and PRK. Our Laser Center uses the VISX Star Laser with automatic 3-D eye tracking, WavePrint system and the latest CustomVue™ software. We also use the Intralase Laser to create the corneal flap for a blade-free procedure.

Dr. Jacobs has also been a local pioneer in lens implant procedures since operation in 1978. He preforms the small-incision, no-stitch, no-needle operation, which promotes rapid visual recovery and return to normal activity. Lens implants have been the standard cataract correction for many years, but they are increasingly being used for vision correction in people who are poor Laser Vision candidates.

Younger patients with very high myopia may be helped by phakic lens implants. These new lenses such as the VISIAN ICL™ or VERISYSE™ are inserted inside the eye without removal of your natural lens. Normal accommodation between distance and near vision is maintained until the mid 40's.

Patients over age 40-45 who have a significant distance correction but wish to maintain near vision as well may benefit from multi-focal or accommodative lens implants such as the RESTOR®, CRYSTALENS®, or ReZOOM®. These lenses do require removal of your natural lens, making the procedure akin to cataract surgery. They do, however, allow distance and near vision without glasses

People over 40-45 who have good distance vision without glasses but are losing near vision may opt for the simpler, less invasive NEARVISIONSM CK® This procedure uses a tiny thermal probe to shrink and reshape corneal tissue. No lasers or cutting are involved. Usually one eye is treated to give "blended" near and far vision.

Many of our vision correction patients are interested in improving their appearance. To help with cosmetic improvement of facial wrinkles, Dr. Jacobs offers MD FORTE® skin care products, BOTOX® and JUVEDERM®.

Dr. Jacobs also provides state-of-the-art comprehensive vision services including laser scanning for early glaucoma detection and SLT laser therapy for glaucoma.

Dr. Jacobs practices with the Cincinnati Eye Institute, a group of 40 ophthalmologists covering all sub-specialties. Dr. Jacobs personally examines all his patients at every visit. Either Dr. Jacobs or a CEI doctor on call is available 24/7 for urgent problems.

We welcome your call to arrange a personal consultation as the best way to determine your candidacy for these exciting procedures. You may also use the contact form to reach us by e-mail.
